    Episode 1A Brave New Game

Episode one kickoffs with a look back at the thrilling moments of season 2 and little snippets of what is to come this season, including the dramatic events surrounding Scottie’s arrest last year. The recap serves not only as a nostalgic reminder of our favorite characters and their wild escapades but also builds anticipation for the exciting developments on the horizon. This engaging intro made me grab some snacks and get comfortable on the couch, as I know it’s something that I could easily binge-watch over a weekend. Each reveal felt like a hook, enticing and demanding my attention, setting the stage for a season full of unexpected twists and turns that promise to keep viewers on the edge of their seats.

A great little Easter egg was a brief look at behind the scenes of the making of Happy Gilmore 2. This sneak peek offered fans a glimpse into the creative process, showcasing the efforts of the cast and crew as they worked tirelessly to recreate the magic of the original film. I can’t be more excited about this since Happy Gilmore happens to be one of the greatest golf movies ever made! The original’s blend of comedy, heart, and sportsmanship captivated audiences, and the idea of a sequel has long been a topic of discussion among fans. The chance to see beloved characters return and new ones introduced adds an extra layer of anticipation, making this sequel not just a continuation, but a celebration of a classic that has left a lasting impact on the genre.

The primary focus of episode one follows world number 1 Scottie Scheffler as he proves he is the player to beat at last year’s Masters. Throughout the tournament, he showcased a remarkable blend of skill and composure, navigating the challenging course with precision. We get a glimpse back at the terrible weather conditions that unfolded that week, with winds gusting up to 40 mph, which posed an additional challenge for all the golfers. As the unpredictable weather wreaked havoc, fans watched in awe as Scheffler remained steadfast, adapting his strategy to counter the elements. His ability to maintain focus amid the chaos not only solidified his reputation but also left fans eager to see how he would handle the pressure in future competitions.

We also take a look at the rise of Ludvig Aberg, a talented golfer who has rapidly gained recognition in the sport. It was his first time competing in a major tournament, a significant milestone in his young career, and he was able to overcome all odds stacked against him. With determination and skill, Aberg showcased his exceptional talent throughout the competition, ultimately making history as one of the few first-time event players to finish in the top five. His remarkable journey not only inspires aspiring golfers but also serves as a reminder of the potential that emerges when hard work and passion collide in the competitive world of professional sports. Through this achievement, Aberg has set a new standard for future newcomers entering major events.

Last but certainly not least, we are able to take a look into the funny and interesting story of Amateur Neal Shipley, who uniquely keeps his Xbox on top of a couple of beer cases, a classic setup that perfectly embodies the carefree spirit of amateur golfers! Known among his friends for his laid-back attitude and offbeat sense of humor, he turned this unconventional arrangement into a personal symbol of relaxation and enjoyment. Despite this quirky gaming setup, he eventually won the low Amateur at the Masters last season, a remarkable achievement that took many by surprise and showcased his incredible talent. Competing against the GOAT Tiger Woods in his final round on Sunday was a thrilling experience for Shipley, one that he will surely cherish for years to come as he reflects on the pressure of being paired with such a legendary figure and the lessons he learned throughout the journey.

Episode 2 – Through Thick and Thin

Episode two takes us into the fascinating world of international golf, focusing on Canadian stars Nick Taylor and Adam Hadwin, who have made significant strides on the PGA Tour, as well as the renowned Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry, both of whom have garnered international acclaim for their exceptional skills and achievements in the sport. This episode explores the unique challenges and triumphs these golfers face as they compete on a global stage, highlighting their dedication, passion, and the camaraderie that exists within the sport.

McIlroy acknowledges in Episode 2 that despite his hard-fought victory with Team Europe at the 2023 Ryder Cup, he has not performed at his best since Rome, a point that weighs heavily on him as a competitor. Understanding the importance of regaining his form, he sees a prime opportunity to get back on track by teaming up with a longtime friend, a decision that adds an exciting dynamic to the competition. Competing alongside someone he trusts and knows well not only boosts his confidence but also enriches the experience at the only team event on the PGA Tour, the Zurich Invitational in New Orleans, where the camaraderie and support between friends can truly shine on the green. This setting allows him to enjoy the game while aiming to elevate his performance, blending competition with friendship in a city known for its vibrant atmosphere and challenges. With everything falling into place, Rory and Shane were able to come out victorious at this event and state that they will be back this year to defend their crown.

The story of the Canadians Nick and Adam also takes a look into their friendship that developed from them competing at multiple events throughout Canada before coming over to the PGA Tour. Their journey showcases not only their individual talents and aspirations but also the unwavering support they provided each other during the ups and downs of their careers. Their bond was further solidified through shared experiences, long conversations after matches, and countless hours spent on the driving range honing their skills. Providing some comedic relief along the way was a brief cameo from Season 1 and 2 star Joel Dahmen and Geno Bonnalie, whose lighthearted interactions added a layer of fun to their competitive spirit, reminding everyone that even in the intensity of competition, laughter and camaraderie are what truly enrich the game.

  • Detry Dominates WM Phoenix Open

All we could do this weekend is tip our cap to Mr. Thomas Detry, who left it all out on the field in a display of sheer determination and skill; his performance not only showcased his incredible talent but also his unwavering commitment to excellence, leaving no doubt in his dominating victory that captivated fans and established him as a true contender in the sport.

Shot of the day for Thomas was an impressive dart with a 9-iron from 180 yards to 16 inches at the 16th hole of the stadium’s famous par 3. I was really hoping to see another ace; missed it by that much.

Other notable finishes in the tournament included Jordan Spieth, who showcased his exceptional skills by finishing tied for fourth, demonstrating his consistent performance and ability to compete at a high level. Meanwhile, Justin Thomas, known for his powerful drives and precision, also had an impressive outing, ending up tied for sixth place, further solidifying his reputation as one of the top players in the sport. Additionally, Sepp Straka displayed remarkable talent and resilience throughout the event, ultimately securing a respectable 15th place, which reflects his ongoing development and potential for future competitions. • WM Phoenix Open Preview

It’s almost here! Time to start getting hydrated and figuring out who your designated driver is because starting tomorrow the WM Phoenix Open kicks off at 8:20 a.m. (CT) in Scottsdale, AZ, at the beautiful TPC Scottsdale course! This prestigious event, known for its energetic atmosphere and enthusiastic fans, promises not only thrilling golf but also an unforgettable experience filled with entertainment, social gatherings, and delicious food options available throughout the venue. As you make your plans, consider bringing a group of friends to enjoy the festivities together while cheering on your favorite players amidst the stunning Arizona scenery.

Now the only words that come to mind as I prepare for this weekend come from Mr. Longfellow Deeds: “I’ll bring the beers; I’ll bring the beers.” Man, I love that movie. Anyway, as the excitement builds and the anticipation grows, it’s clear that we can’t deny this event happens to be the rowdiest tour event of the season, particularly because of the lively atmosphere that surrounds it. Especially if there is an ace on the 16th hole (cross your fingers), the energy will reach new heights, and the cheers will echo throughout the course. I have no doubt that we will not be disappointed this year, as friends gather, laughter fills the air, and the thrill of competition drives us to celebrate the game we love. It promises to be a memorable experience, one filled with camaraderie and unforgettable moments.

We have plenty of star-studded power taking the field this weekend, including Rickie Fowler, Hideki Matsuyama, Justin Thomas, and Jordan Spieth, just to name a few. However, my eyes will be on World Number 1 Scottie Scheffler, who was the WM Phoenix Open Champion in 2022 and 2023, and will be looking to cement his name once more in this event’s history.

What does the winner get, you ask? Well, the purse for this event is a remarkable $9.2 million, which has seen an increase from last year’s impressive $8.8 million. This substantial prize money not only reflects the growing popularity and prestige of the tournament but also underscores the competitive spirit inherent in the game. The winner, therefore, takes home roughly $1,656,000, in addition to earning a significant 500 FedExCup points, which can play a crucial role in their overall standings throughout the season. It’s moments like these that highlight the dedication, skill, and hard work required to excel in such a high-stakes environment.

Last year’s winner – Nick Taylor

My Pick – Scottie Scheffler (-22)

My Sleeper Pick – Rickie Fowler

My Super Bowl Pick – Chiefs by 3 (24-21)

  • Rory Mcllroy claims AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am 2025 Title

Seems like that luck of the Irish carried over from McIlroy’s ace in round one all the way through to the end. Rory finished the day shooting a 6 under, bringing his final 72-hole score to a 21-under, a two-shot win over fellow Irishman Shane Lowry.

This win marks Rory’s 27th win all time on the PGA Tour, and he will be taking home a nice pocket full of cash at $3.6 million (must be nice!). It was great to see Rory doing Rory things out on the field today with his booming drives and precision putting. Hopefully, he can keep this momentum going throughout the season.

In other news, Shane Lowry finished second at 19-under, while Justin Rose and Lucas Glover finished tied for third at 18-under. Russell Henley and Cam Davis tied for fifth at 17-under, with Davis securing this position by making a birdie on the last hole.

My Pick” Results: Almost had it! Scottie Scheffler finished tied for 9th at 15-under after a final-round of 67, marking his season debut following a hand injury over the holidays.

Hope you all enjoyed your golf-filled weekend and are ready for many more to come. Next week (Feb. 6-9) brings the WM Phoenix Open at TPC Scottsdale, so you better get your beer cans ready! Let’s go!

  • Pair of Aces in Round 1 of AT&T Pebble Beach

There’s nothing I love more than the smell of freshly cut grass through my living room TV on a Thursday morning opening round. And much like the picture on my TV, the players are looking great!

In my opinion, the highlights of the day came from two Irishmen, Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry. Rory, who finished the day 6 under (-6), aced the 15th hole (119-yard Par 3) at Spyglass Hill like he was competing in a beer pong championship. Then Shane, who also finished the day at 6 under (-6), aced the 7th hole (113-yard Par 3) at the Pebble Beach course. Talk about the luck of the Irish!

Russell Henley finished the day at #1 on the leaderboard, shooting a beautiful 8 under (-8). It looked like he was fresh off a hunting trip, pocketing 9 birdies (tweet-tweet). Let’s see if he can keep the momentum going into round 2 tomorrow.

In other news, Scottie Scheffler made his debut this season after recovering from a hand injury, although you couldn’t really tell he was ever injured by the way he played. He ended the day shooting 5 under (-5) and has the field right where he wants them.

Once again, it was a great day for golf, as it always is, and I look forward to watching some more throughout the weekend. Check out the leaderboard below. Thanks for reading, and may your shafts forever be X-Stiff!

  • Pebble Beach Pro-Am Preview

    What’s on Tap:

Starting Jan. 30th and running through Feb. 2, the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am will take place. This event will occur at Pebble Beach Golf Links (6,972 yds.) throughout the whole weekend and at Spyglass Hill (7,040 yds.) on Thursday and Friday only.

This year’s field will include 80 professionals and 80 celebrities (playing only Thurs. & Fri.). The pros and celebs will play together using the best-ball format for the first 36 holes, and then only the pros will play into the weekend.

The purse for the weekend totals $20 million, with the outright winner taking roughly $3.6 million.

Last year, this event only recorded 54 holes due to inclement weather, which prevented play on Sunday and Monday. Therefore, Wyndham Clark was named Champion since he was the leader at the 54-hole mark, and the rest is history. Let’s hope this doesn’t happen again.

    My Pick: Scottie Scheffler
